Ribot is a French Realist painter who is represented in many of the most important museums in the world including: Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Minneapolis Institute of Artsworks, Rijksmuseum, Ashmolean Museum at the University of Oxford, Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, Cleveland Museum of Art, Kröller-Müller Museum, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Museum of the Origins of the Polish State, Norton Museum of Art, and the West Palm Beach, Pomona College Museum of Art.

This painting if from his most sought after periods of work where he does strong light and dark effects (chiaroscuro) depicting restaurant kitchen scenes ("Scenes culinaires") c.1861. Possibly one of several paintings shown at the Paris Salon in 1861.
