Description:
This extraordinary French comtoise longcase clock dates from the 1920s or 1930s and measures an impressive 82" (6' 10") tall, 20" wide and 8" deep. We have found no hallmarks and the maker is unknown. Design and craftsmanship is comparable to the metalwork of Edgar Brandt and Paul Kiss. It features an open frame crafted from hand-hammered brass and steel, decorated with fish and scrollwork. The face is made of burl walnut. The clock is in fine working order, but the winding keys are missing. The pendulum (not shown) has be replaced. The Morbier system strikes a bell at the top of the clock, on the hour and again two minutes thereafter. It must be affixed to a wall for safe use. This item resides in our client's gallery on the Upper East Side of Manhattan ( New York City ) and may be seen by appointment.
