Description:
This magnificent antique chryselephantine statue depicts the Greek goddess Athena and is uniquely carved from two types of marble (red and green) with bronze mounts. Believed to date from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century. Some cracks to the face and arms, consistent with age, but no losses. Unmarked. Likely of European origin and possibly Russian or French. Provenance is unknown. Measures 16" high, 4" wide and 4" deep. Estimated weight is 10-14 lbs. This item resides in our client's gallery on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City and may be seen by appointment.
