(Caldwell and Company, Edward F.)
Edward F. Caldwell and Company of New York. (E. F. Caldwell) is well documented as being a leading American designer of lighting fixtures & other metalwork, ranking in pre-eminence with such companies as Tiffany. One of the company's earliest commissions was for the Vanderbilt's residence in Hyde Park, New York. Caldwell electric fixtures were also used to replace the gas lamps in the White House during the administration of Teddy Roosevelt and many of the Caldwell fixtures from the 1902 renovation are still present in the White House. The pair of sconces that are offered here are a superb example of Caldwell's early work dating between 1895 & 1900. The lighting was often cast in bronze, decorated with Ormalu and hand cut beads.
