Van Den Berg Trompe L'oeil Still Life Oil Painting

This lovely oil on board in the trompe l'oeil style is entitled Braderie and is signed in the painted nameplate P. Van Den Berg. Board measures 39.25" by 17.3". Frame measures 36.75" by 24.1" by 1.75". Depicted in this still life is a mantle decorated with an assortment of collectible items including a painting, ceramics, and metal objects. The term "braderie" translates to "fair" or "market" in Dutch (and "clearance sale" in French) and thus the title here has been used to indicate a personal collection of objects that are for sale. Full artist name is unknown. Possible artists include Paul van den Berg (1859+) and Piet van den Berg (1865-1950) based on review of the Artnet database. Condition is good. Surface is relatively clean and shows a degree of craquelure consistent with age. There are a couple small breaks to the painted surface near the lower right corner. Giltwood frame is in good condition. Carries an identifying label of a French shipping company on the rear. This item resides in our client's home on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and may be seen in person by appointment.
